Honoured to capture the amazing team at @drealeedancestudio last month. This amazing group of passionate and talented people are delivering exceptional training to their community. A team built around more than just dance. They empower those that walk through their doors. I loved capturing their glow and energy. 📸🫶

WHAT’S KEY: This is my daughter, this is shot three during a backdrop testshoot. Shot one we discussed foreshortening leading into shot 2. Leading into shot three I said, “Isla when we perform the hard tricks, we must be extra aware of the look on our face as to not show effort”. From there she demonstrated the dancer/photographer feedback loop very well. Sure it’s just mismatched PJ’s but what’s striking for me is the control on her face. The best dance photos sometimes are the stunning emotions presented alongside the athletic prowess. Kudos to the community training her each week. @sgsdance @motivesdanceandfitness @rastylezstudio @supernovaacro @i_am_tiffanyannan @shaylahenschell @thedancestu

Sometimes you need a little encouragement from your big sister. @dancing_harlow and Bronx stopped by the studio this week for a @weissmandance application and wow did they make magic in the studio. I loved capturing them both and look forward to the final images.

Sometimes the shortest sessions can yield the biggest moments. Yesterday @evelyn_dancing stopped by for headshots and we snuck in a couple dance shots. She’s such a professional person for a young person. A great person on camera, in the dance studio and on stage.

Just a little more gratitude. These two photos represent the first dance photo and the most recent. Year two is as hard of a working timeline as year one. I’m excited for more moments and more magic.

MAKING THE NEWS!

Pretty cool seeing some of my work on Global News tonight. Especially when it’s for an individual chasing a dream. @brookwdance and I did a shoot in winter 2025 for @rwbschool Summer Intensive which has now turned into full-time studies this season. @globaledmonton did a wonderful news story on her and featured some of the images we collaborated on this week as well. A team on set with the common goal to showcase what Einstein called the ‘Athletes of God’, the dancer. To see the whole story, visit the link in my bio.

Miss Grace has very awesome talents! When the fiddle, mandolin, and tap shoes entered the chat I knew this would be a cool session!

Artists like @brookwdance are always so inspiring. It’s their skill coupled with their gentle gracefulness when working together. I feel as though this moment encapsulates that nature. She’s someone you just want to root for!

I could pick teasers from the 19 mini sessions at @thedanceinitiative_ all day! It was a long day but let’s go with a couple snaps that show the power, love of dance, and moments of a dancer’s pride in their skills.

Wow, @chloeh_dances and I made magic today. This was a moment captured right after evaluating the first shot from the first pose. It was about emotion on the face and drawing lines to the face. All eyes travel there first when viewing an image. We make art with intent and understanding of the human form and artistic interpretation.

These lovely ladies made magic in the studio today! There were so many moments like these ones where the authentic personalities shined on camera. Thanks for making today amazing.

So stoked to have an amazing artist like @georgi_arnold help me debut my new backdrop! The richness of the color matches the depth of the mood and moment that someone like her can portray. ✅

There’s something special about the dancer that started it all for me.

@georgi_arnold was the first dancer to step in front of my camera for this new chapter of dance portraiture.

Today’s creative brief in studio was simple:

Confidence. Attitude. Arrival.

Don’t pose for the part you want.

Pose as if you’ve been receiving cheques for the part you’ve earned!

From there, we built the shoot around water. Wet hair, water droplets, warm light, deep shadows, two backdrops and a few different looks.

Lastly a little BTS, because the finished image is only half the story.

When you meet artist like @cvsergiannis it’s obvious she has a great creative pallet on stage and in studio. Awesome job in today’s shoot.

When @kaidyncehamula arrived with fresh @laducashoes you knew we had to give some diva vibes to the shoot. What a talented performer on stage and in the studio.

Next up for ambassador program test shoots is the multi-sport athlete @mikabella7 who strolled in at 9am and left the studio like a pro crafting these images. Grace and athleticism together is the key.

More test shoots this week with ambassador applicants. This time @embdancer14 stepped up to deliver that power she possesses.

Great to invite @camry_nm to the studio for ambassador program test shoots. We got to work right away and learned to navigate a creative dance photoshoot where the dancer is in charge of crafting the final images. Great job!

Ambassador test shoots have begun this week and first up was the lovely @mckylacourtney who made great use of the short session with poses prepped and worked like a pro with some alternative options in each pose. Great job Mckyla!

More space on the feed for @elody_clark! We had a little extra time after the dance portion of the shoot to add variety to her portfolio. A very effortless transition for the studio pro.

The shoot with @elody_clark today is very indicative of the Ambassador Program shoots for the 26/27 season. A total collaboration. My pre-production moodboard was enhanced and personalized with Elody’s creativity and initiative. Then we worked with inspirations or improvisations on camera to capture many different ideas. Here are some of my favourites from the shoot.

That time I convinced @taneil_prouty and the @rsda_dance crew to let me take a group photo at the end of the photo session. Possibly the most laughter had all day in Brooks. A town I call the ‘nicest small town in Alberta’!

@dancing_with_mercy is just one of those bright souls you root for! Talented, kind, and wise. A few more shots from our test shoot this past spring. Dedicated to a multi-discipline craft, I know she is going places.

Some performers are just able to adapt and create unique characters on the fly. At her young age, @dancing_harlow did just that. Her session was so quick and efficient, it passed me by in a blink of an eye. Went back to the session and found so many glimpses of her talent in front of the lens.

Just one more from the shoot with @taija_graham where things just came together so nicely. One day I will host a powder day like @ronmckinneyphoto and as many dancers interested can have an experience like this.

When your career is busy but you need new headshots it’s just math. 20 minutes, 3 different looks, 1 powerhouse. Keep going @taneil_prouty 🤛
